Service, Repairs and MOT

If your vehicle is more than 3 years old, it is a legal requirement for you to have it MOT tested every 12 months. An MOT will ensure your car is in a roadworthy condition, safe for you, your passengers and other road users.

There are no official regulations regarding vehicle servicing, however, it is highly recommended that you arrange to have your vehicle fully serviced regularly to maintain its condition, value and reliability. This should be once a year, or every 12,000 miles – whichever comes around first. Most cars will have a service indicator giving a prediction of how many more miles you can drive or the number of months remaining until a service is due.

If your vehicle fails its MOT, but your current MOT certificate is still valid, you can still drive it as long as there are no major faults that are classified as ‘dangerous’. If there are, you will not be able to drive your car away until those issues are fixed.

In either instance, if your vehicle fails its MOT, you will need to arrange for your vehicle to be repaired and retested.

If your vehicle requires any work or repairs following your MOT or service, this will incur an additional cost which you will be advised of at the centre.
