Understanding the MOT Test
An MOT test is an essential evaluation that checks your vehicle's safety, roadworthiness, and emissions standards. It covers various components, from brakes and fuel systems to lights, mirrors, and seatbelts, ensuring everything operates correctly for safe driving.
- Filter & Oil Change: We replace your oil and oil filter annually for optimal performance.
- Electrical Checks: We examine all lights, warning signals, and the horn to ensure everything functions correctly.
- Under Vehicle Checks: We assess the brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust system, and tyres for safety and efficiency.
- Air Filter Check: Ensuring your vehicle's air filter is in good condition to minimise CO2 emissions.
- Under Bonnet Inspections: Our team delves deeper, inspecting the auxiliary drive belt, hydraulic fluid, clutch, and power steering fluid.
- Exterior Checks: Our technicians inspect the exterior for any damage, including the windscreen, wipers, and door locks.

How Often Do I Need an MOT for My Citroën?
New Citroën cars don't require an MOT for the first three years after registration.
After three years you are then legally required to have an MOT test every 12 months. You are also not legally allowed to drive without a valid MOT certificate. Finding out when your MOT is due is easy – just input your registration details on the government’s website, and it will tell you if your vehicle has a valid MOT and when the next test is due.
When Your Citroën Needs its First MOT
The first Citroën MOT is the same as all the rest, but we'll run through some vital info that may make your life easier.
To pass your first Citroën MOT test, our technicians carry out a series of tests and checks to ensure all your car’s vital components meet legal standards.
Whilst you can keep your MOT date the same by booking it a day or two before it’s due, we recommend booking your Citroën MOT as early as possible. This can be up to 30 days in advance. Doing so will ensure you'll have enough time to sort out any potential issues that arise.
However, on your first MOT, you’ll likely have no major problems.
Please keep in mind that it’s your responsibility to ensure your Citroën has a valid MOT test carried out by a professional. Driving without a valid MOT invalidates your insurance and is illegal. You could even face a fine of up to £1,000.
How Long Does a Citroën MOT Take?
Citroën Service Intervals
A Citroën MOT test typically lasts anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes. You can leave your car with us as you go about your day. Or you can sit and wait in our comfortable Citroën Service & MOT Centre with free coffee, wifi and relaxing seats.
Before you book your Citroën MOT, please consider the following points:
- Please schedule in time for potential repairs in case your Citroën fails its MOT test
- We cannot legally allow you to drive your car if it fails its MOT test (unless you still have a valid MOT and are in for an early test)
- You may be required to drop off your Citroën car first thing in the morning due to availability
- We recommend that you plan your day without your car in case any extra work is required
How Much Does a Citroën MOT Cost?
We offer a full Citroën MOT with MOT Protect included for just £54.85. If you need any work done on top of the MOT, our technicians will explain exactly what needs to be done and why and we'll only carry out work once you've agreed to it.
Citroën MOT Protect
In the unlikely event that your new Citroën doesn’t pass its first-ever MOT test, MOT Protect has you covered. Any parts and labour needed to pass your Citroën MOT test are covered for free! This includes electrics, lighting, steering, suspension and more.
*MOT Protect covers all items except the windscreen, wheels, tyres and items replaced as part of routine servicing (e.g. brake disks and pads) modified and/or non-Citroën components.
