Ultra-Limited Edition Models We Wish We'd Got Our Hands On

Whether you’re adding accessories to your MINI or racing stripes to your Porsche, most of us like to bring an element of uniqueness and personality to our car. For those with the means, the only way to do that is by getting your hands on a model that was produced in its tens or hundreds - tops. So, strap yourself in for some of the hottest properties we wish we’d managed to snare before they evaporated in a cloud of squealing brake dust. 

Mercedes-AMG Project One

In recognition of Lewis Hamilton claiming a fourth consecutive F1 world championship for Mercedes, the German manufacturer decided to celebrate in style. The Project One effectively places the all-conquering Silver Arrow engine into a plug-in hybrid electric supercar, which pumps out over 1,000bhp. Production of the car has been set at 275 units, all of which have been sold for around £2.4 million each. 

BMW Nazca C2

Originally designed by the famous engineering company Italdesign back in 1991, this BMW packed a serious punch with its 5.0-litre V12 engine and carbon fibre body. Stunningly good looking, the sports car was never put into production. Three of them were produced though, with one being put up for sale for $1.1 million in 2011.

Audi R8 RWS

This is one for the purists. Audi’s stunning R8 supercar usually comes with the Quattro all-wheel drive system perfected across the German manufacturer’s many models. However, this RWS special edition has a rear-wheel setup, bringing an even more dynamic character to your walk on the wild side. Limited to just 999 examples in the UK, the R8 RWS is 50kg lighter than the regular version and came in a Coupé and Spyder version.

Audi A8 Edition 21

If you’d rather drive a luxury Audi - or even be driven as you relax in the back - then the A8 Edition 21 released in 2015 is hard to beat. Celebrating 21 years since the A8 first went on sale, the Edition 21 model shows just how far modern technology has come, while staying true to the original design’s cues and its focus on comfort. Just 121 versions of this car were available to UK customers.

Jaguar F-Type Project 7

Inspired by Jaguar’s rich racing heritage, this special edition F-Type is named after the seven victories the British manufacturer has enjoyed at the iconic Le Mans 24-hour race. The Project 7 drops its top and doffs its cap to the 1950s D-Type - which won three times at Le Mans - with its flowing lines and distinctive hump to the rear, and saw just 250 examples produced.

Porsche 930 LE

Somewhat literal in its name - LE is short for Limited Edition - this car is nonetheless a real work of art. Taking design cues from both the 911 and 934, only 50 of these cars were ever built. If you love the instantly recognisable lines of classic Porsches, you’re going to adore the 930 LE. 

1954 Mercedes-Benz W196

We finish with the pinnacle of ‘ultra-limited’. Only one of these cars was ever made, produced for legendary racing driver Juan Manuel Fangio. The Argentinian icon won the 1954 German and Swiss Grands Prix in this motor, which was sold at auction for an incredible $29.6 Million in 2011.
