Introducing The Mercedes-Benz GLB
The Mercedes-Benz GLB offers an almost unique proposition, as an SUV with seven seats, desirable looks, practicality, range of engine choice and from a premium manufacturer, all for under £40,000.
A true all rounder, the Mercedes-Benz GLB introduces SUV styling and Mercedes luxury into a compact and muscular body. Inside the GLB features eye catching elegance, technology and luxury. Every element of the GLB leaves a lasting impression.
Yet the GLB is as practical as it is stylish. With configurable second and third row seating. The middle row can slide forwards or backwards to provide extra legroom or extra bootspace. Whilst the third row pops up from the boot floor when needed and offers the same luxury as the middle row. The GLB can adapt to your lifestyle and family demands.

Driving The GLB
The Mercedes-Benz GLB raised body and large windows gives a commanding view over the road with limited blind spots for a car of this size. Parking is made easier as well with the fitted as standard reversing camera with parking guidelines predicting where the car will go with different steering inputs.
The GLB is easy to drive thanks to its standard automatic gearbox, light steering and progressive controls making it effortless to drive smoothly, even to someone new to the Mercedes-Benz range. The GLB handles well and makes a twisty back lane entertaining. Its AMG Line suspension helps keep the car flat around corners and the GLB 35 handles even better with AMG suspension and chassis tweaks.
The Driver Assistance Package makes it even easier to drive the GLB with blind spot warning, auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and evasive steering, the GLB is always alert to danger and helps to protect you and your passengers. These features are always handy but especially on a longer drive.

The GLB is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines, with either front or four wheel drive. We drove the 1.3-litre 200 Petrol with 163hp which had enough power for driving around town and for more open roads. The diesels offer power and torque and are ideal for those longer drives. However the more powerful, range topping GLB 35 delivers over 300hp for a more entertaining experience. The GLB 35 delivers 0-62mph in just 5.2 seconds and you seven adults can experience it at the same time.

Driving Modes
DYNAMIC SELECT offers different driving modes to reflect your mood and driving style. At the press of a button you can change how the car feels with different programs changing settings for the engine, transmission, chassis and steering. Sport mode adds a more dynamic feel with a more responsive driving experience and heavier steering wheel. Eco saves fuel and money by reducing the consumption of the car through optimizing the air conditioning and power delivery. Comfort provides a balanced setting which if you don't want to change the DYNAMIC SELECT offers an enjoyable driving experience.
GLB Design
Walking up to the GLB the first thing you notice is the rugged look with upright bumpers, plastic cladding, raised ride height and chrome styling. This combined with the additional AMG style such as the AMG alloy wheels, diffuser and body kit create an unmistakable presence with hints of the flagship Mercedes models such as the G-Class and GLS.
The GLB is not all just style and no substance though. The exterior design is full of useful features such as the electronic boot which can be opened and closed remotely. Other clever touches include the doors which cover the inner sills which means no matter how dirty the exterior of the car gets, the sills remain clean so when getting in and out your clothes will not get dirty. The AMG SUV body styling looks good but also protects the car should you wish to go off road.
Inside the theatre continues and undeniably belongs to a premium Mercedes-Benz. It is based on the A-Class interior which is no bad thing with some changes to add a more premium and rugged feel to reflect the exterior. It has the same feature brushed-metal air vents which are illuminated if you specify the ambient lighting package. The GLB comes as standard with AMG Line trim which adds sports seats, alcantara and leather effect materials, contrast stitching, aluminium highlights, carbon fibre effect trim and sports steering wheel.
The car comes as standard with dual 7" displays, one for the MBUX system and one for the driver's display. Both displays are configurable and easy to use. Upgrading to AMG Line Premium upgrades these screens to 10.25" which adds a futuristic feel to the car as well as added usability. Both variations feature smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Technology
The Mercedes-Benz GLB has ambient lighting throughout the interior which can be configured in one of 64 different colours. You can choose one colour, a combination or a range of lighting animations to suit your mood. Ambient lighting is available as an option or as standard on the AMG Line Premium and Premium Plus trims.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB features connectivity at its heart. You can answer calls, listen to your music and charge your smartphone all at the same time with the GLB.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard and allow you to safely and quickly access applications on your smartphone such as messages, calls and music apps.
You can use voice control, touch screen, touch pad and touch buttons on the steering wheel to control the MBUX system and your smartphone connectivity. The touchpad even recognizes your hand writing.
MBUX refers to the multimedia system displayed on the central touchscreen. It has been designed to be as easy to operate as possible, it can be adapted to suit your needs and feel 100% natural.
MBUX can be controlled via touchscreen, touch buttons, steering wheel buttons, central touch pad and via voice recognition. The system is always easy to use no matter what the situation. The GLB even remembers what you like such as the themes, lighting options, air conditioning, Dynamic Select and radio stations.
LINGUATRONIC recognizes voice commands and you can speak to your GLB to operate a range of vehicle functions and to access Mercedes-Benz online services.
The driver assistance available on the GLB covers a range of functions. Such as Blind Spot Assist which gives a visual and audible warning if it predicts you will collide with another road user in the blind spot.
Traffic Sign Assist detects speed limits, overtaking restrictions and other road rules and displays these on the dashboard for the driver’s reference.
Other functions include; Active Distance Distronic, Active Steering Assist, Active Braking Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.
Configurable Seating
The configurable seating and practicality of the GLB is one of it's many stand out features. The GLB can adapt to whatever you require from it.
The middle of row of seats can slide forwards to allow more boot space or can slide back to allow more legroom. The third row of seats is stored flat in the boot floor and can be pulled out when needed. You can also have multiple combinations of seats with some up and some down to allow you to carry people and as well as have space to store items.
It is not difficult to slide the seats or fold down the seats, all can be done with one hand using the under seat levers and pull out straps.
There are almost endless seating and storage configurations to meet your needs. No matter what setup you have you know with the GLB everyone will be experiencing Mercedes-Benz luxury and comfort.
Practicality and Boot Space
Open the electrically operated boot and you will find a large boot with up to 570l of space. Folding down the middle of row of seats gives up to 1800l of space with a flat loading floor. Even with the third row of seats up, there is still some space behind and space under the boot floor. The GLB can adapt to your needs.
The boot is packed with features including USB-C chargers, illumination,, storage netting, hooks, straps, storage under the boot floor and a chrome strip to protect the paintwork.
To close the boot simply push the button on the key or the boot lid and it will silently close for you, locking into place.
Mercedes-Benz GLB Verdict
The Mercedes-Benz GLB would be a fantastic car without its configurable seating and practicality, due to its dynamic driving experience, premium badge, luxury technology packed interior, rugged and desirable styling and its price.
However, the configurable seating and option to be able to seat up to seven adults makes the GLB stand out as a premium alternative to the less desirable van-like seven seater MPVs. The GLB fits around your daily demands with sliding seats to allow for more legroom or more boot space, a fold up third row of seats and a completely flat loading bay.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is a true all rounder which even ticks the high performance box if you choose the GLB 35 AMG. If you want a premium, seven seater car which can adapt to the challenges of daily life all for under £40,000 look no further.
