Meet the Mercedes-Benz EQA

Joining the larger EQC in Mercedes-Benz's ambitious and growing EQ sub brand, and due for release in 2020, the EQA is set to be the perfect hatchback option for those seeking to experience an electrified Mercedes.

The manufacturer is aiming to expand its electric line-up to more than 10 vehicles by 2022, and the EQA is expected to be the entry to this much sought after vehicle segment.

Aesthetics

The EQA is set to be built in Hambach, France where smart EQ models are currently made. This follows investments of £438m as Mercedes-Benz accelerates the development of its electric vehicle range.

It’s design idiom is clearly very similar to the newly released EQC. Sharp and angular edges are reduced resulting in flowing and harmonious lines. These are not only aerodynamically efficient, increasing performance and range, but provide a futuristic and original aesthetic that separates it from the traditional petrol and diesel range, yet is still unmistakably Mercedes-Benz.

EQA Performance

The specifications can only be based on the concept (pictured) but when it arrives, drivers can look forward to electric ranges over 200 miles, dependent upon the battery option installed.

The EQA will features AWD and a power output of around 268hp, very impressive stats for a hatchback by modern standards. Top speeds are expected to be above 120mph, and 0-60mph will take around 5 seconds. The performance will be made even more exciting by the instant torque available to all-electric power trains.

Electric Revolution

Potential buyers and electric car enthusiasts will be looking at the lifestyle aspects of the vehicle also. The Merecedes-Benz EQA is set to come with rapid charge capability, and will be able to be charged via induction or wallbox. The concept EQA model can even charge up to a 60 mile range in less than 10 minutes.

Owners can also expect to make use of an extensive charging networks, including use of the Charg&Pay app, allowing easier recharging when out and about. Furthermore, the future holds development in stationary energy storage units using solar or photovoltaic charging, which are available for home and work.
