2021 Preview - Upcoming Electric and Hybrid Models

Audi will be introducing the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron next year. These models will join the growing family of Audi’s EV models, whilst offering a lower price point for customers. Both models will feature the same drivetrain and be of a similar size, the Sportback offers coupe like styling with a sloped rear. The Q4 will be available with two or four wheel drive, up to 306hp and feature a range of up to 310 miles on one charge due to its large 82kWh battery.

Audi will also be adding this exciting high performance four door electric coupe to its line-up in 2021. With up to 650bhp and a 93kWh battery, as a result it is expected to achieve 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds. Audi will also be introducing a slightly less powerful model which is more efficient whilst still retaining the desirable coupe styling. 

BMW claims the IX is the brand’s most advanced car ever produced. Featuring a 100kWh battery providing a 375 mile range and 500hp, the IX promises to provide sports car performance whilst not compromising range. The IX will be the first car to feature built in 5g technology which allows it to communicate with other cars and satellites for information such as upcoming traffic, parking and upcoming road signs. The IX also has the fastest onboard computer ever fitted to a BMW which can transmit the information stored on a DVD in one second. 

The IX3, BMW’s first electric SUV, is available to pre-order now, with deliveries expected in early 2021. The IX3 produces 286hp, driven through its rear wheels providing acceleration of 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds and a 285 mile range. The IX3 is heavily based on the popular and practical X3, as a result the IX3 feels like a more comfortable and conventional step into the electric car world. 

The 2021 Jaguar E-PACE plug in hybrid combines the practicality and range of a petrol engine with the economy of an electric motor. It uses a 197hp 1.5 litre petrol engine and a 108bhp electric motor, which provide a combined output of 305bhp. This allows the E-PACE to accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds whilst providing up to 34 miles of range and 141mpg. The 2021 E-PACE also introduces a range of updates including revised styling and extra technology such as a 10” central touchscreen.

The UX300e is the first all electric Lexus and features an electric range of up to 196 miles. 204hp and 300 Nm of instantaneous torque allows the UX300e to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds, providing a fun driving experience. The battery cells are continually monitored and features advanced cooling and heating systems to protect the batteries. The batteries are designed to last the lifetime of the car and come with an eight year warranty. 

Deliveries start in March 2021.

Mercedes has not released much information about the EQA, but it will be the entry point into the Mercedes EQ range. It is likely to be a compact crossover, taking design ques from the larger EQ models such as the EQC. It is expected to have a driving range of around 250 miles and to be available early in 2021. 

Also joining the Mercedes-Benz EQ range will be an EQB, EQE and EQS. Each of these models offer similar body sizes to their combustion engine equivalents the B-Class, E-Class and S-Class whilst introducing the latest developments in battery technology and styling.   

The Porsche Macan EV will join conventionally powered Macans as the top of the range model. The Macan EV will use an evolved platform of the Taycan, Porsche’s first electric car. Based on the Taycan’s performance the Macan should be able to achieve a range of 300 miles and 0-62mph in under 4 seconds. More details will be available closer to its launch in 2021. 

The Taycan Cross Turismo will provide added practicality and ground clearance over the regular Taycan with its estate style body shape. The Cross Turismo is likely to have the same three choices of power output as the Taycan; a 4s with 532bhp, a Turbo with 671bhp and a Turbo S with 751bhp. The Cross Turismo launch is planned towards the end of 2021. 

The ID.4 will be the second VW model to join the ID family, joining the smaller ID.3. The ID.4. will have a range of up to 320 miles, up to 204bhp and a 77kWh battery the ID.4. can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds. Its SUV body style provides greater practicality with unique styling and large 20 inch alloy wheels. Inside the ID.4 features a minimalist interior with configurable ambient lighting. The ID.4 will be available from the start of 2021.
